Curcumin is the ingredient in the turmeric root that offers excellent health benefits. In fact, the turmeric root has been harvested as a health remedy in many parts of the world, dating back to 2000 B.C. Turmeric (also known as curry) is part of the ginger family and has a deep, vibrant yellow color when used in supplements or in cooking.
Tumeric is still a staple in Indian and Asian dishes but extracts of turmeric yield a compound far exceeding the content of the common spice.
