What Is Citicoline (CDP-Choline)?
Citicoline is a nootropic, a compound that encourages healthy cognitive function. It’s a great option for supporting memory health, focus and attention. In the body, citicoline is involved in the process that generates electrical impulses for brain cell-to-brain cell communication. It also promotes mitochondrial activity, which helps promote healthy brain cell energy.
Looking for a nootropic? Consider citicoline. This important neurotransmitter building block is an all-around cognitive health superstar!
Citicoline: making memories
In your body, citicoline supports a variety of brain functions, including memory. How? It’s an important building block for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine—a chemical messenger essential to the healthy memory and recall functions of your brain. Citicoline also works with the brain to help maintain energy reserves in brain cells, making citicoline an excellent addition to cognitive health regimens.
Product Details
CDP-choline stands for cytidine-5’-diphosphate choline, also known as citicoline. In the body, citicoline is used to produce acetylcholine, a major neurotransmitter that facilitates the transmission of impulses between neurons. The citicoline in our formula has robust research to support efficacy.
In addition to its role as an acetylcholine precursor, citicoline may help support healthy brain energy as well as phospholipid membrane components that are required to synthesize and maintain healthy cell membranes in the brain.1
Cognizin® citicoline and memory health: clinical studies
One hundred healthy men and women aged between 50 and 85 years old participated in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. Participants were given 500 mg of citicoline every day or a placebo for twelve weeks. Computerized tests were used to assess memory function at the end of the trial period: participants taking citicoline showed significant results in both episodic memory (stored information about your personal life events) as well as composite memory (the overall aspect of memory) compared with the placebo group.2
In another study, citicoline encouraged healthy attention and cognitive performance scores: healthy adult women who took 250 mg of citicoline for four weeks reported fewer mistakes in recall and forgetting errors compared to the placebo group.3
