Pyridoxal 5’-phosphate (P-5-P) is the active coenzyme form of vitamin B6 that is directly utilized by the body. P-5-P plays an important role in amino acid metabolism, neurotransmitter production, and a variety of other metabolic reactions such as the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.† Magnesium is included to assist vitamin B6 metabolism. In addition, these 2 nutrients are frequently found as cofactors for the same enzymes.
